Postmodernism 101: From Zero to (Anti)Hero
The aim of this course is to get acquainted with one of the most versatile modes of discourse – Postmodernism. As a reactionary movement aiming to deconstruct the modernist myth of metanarratives, postmodern literature has brought about a shift in perception of narratives as stable and irrefutable. Self-referential, playful and often cynical, postmodern novels subvert most common literary tropes, invite careful analysis and broaden the scope of understanding of how literature works. In this course, we will look at the most prominent theoretical texts on the nature of postmodernism and apply them to selected novels in a hands-on approach.
