PRAESENZ: Transitional Justice and Dealing with the Past - Einzelansicht

The seminar aims at exploring transitional justice and its role in dealing with the difficult past such as wars, genocides. It will target to explain judicial and non-judicial mechanisms of transitional justice (TJ). It covers four main pillars; criminal prosecutions, truth commissions, reparations and institutional reforms. In addition to them, contemporary TJ expands its borders by having a new pillar; memorialization.

This seminar will focus on recent developments in the field of TJ, review the feminist critics and local approaches to TJ including informal and alternative truth-seeking initiatives by the civil society actors.

15-min presentations will be taken by the students during the seminar. A term paper will be written by the end of the seminar.

Students with a basic knowledge on conflict resolution and peacebuilding, and with interest in the dealing with the traumatic past.
