This course is all-singing, all-dancing. It practises all the major language skills as a culmination of students' language learning for this master's degree. In terms of content, the course focuses on adaptations in a broad sense, beginning with an examination of poetry in translation before moving on to comparisons of two written texts with their corresponding film versions. To support our discussions, we will take a look at some of the theory behind adaptations. In addition to this, students will be required to listen to a series of podcasts throughout the semester, and each student will give a mini-presentation relating to one of those podcasts. The final grade for the course will be established based on an adaptation project to be submitted a fortnight after the end of the semester. This can either be a piece of academic analysis in the traditional term-paper style or a creative work of adaptation. |
