International conferences such as the World Model United Nations that simulate the United Nations offer a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in multilateral diplomacy. The World Model United Nations (WorldMUN) is held annually in a different location around the world with more than 2,000 students from over 115 countries. Participating in the WorldMUN delivers insight into the work of a diplomat and is essential for students who plan a career in international organizations. WorldMUN will host its twenty-eight conference March 18-22, 2019 in Madrid, Spain. The in-conference trip will take place March 17-23, 2019.
This seminar is open to dedicated and motivated FSU students who are interested in the work of the United Nations and that want to improve their rhetorical skills and their free speech as well as for those that want to join the 2019 WorldMUN delegation. In the seminar, students will familiarize themselves with
- the work of the United Nations,
- rhetorical and negotiation skills,
- the policies and perspectives of the assigned country,
- the issues to be debated at the conference,
- and the rules of procedure of the conference.
For those that want to participate at the conference in Madrid there are two excursions in addition to the seminar to acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge in sample simulations. Those students are required to attend all of these sessions and excursions.
