Deutsch (See English below)
Beschreibung

Description
The solutions of partial differential equations cannot usually be specified by closed formulas, so we need to numerically approximate them. The lecture deals with linear equations of both elliptic and parabolic type. The analytical solution theory (existence and interpretation) which is developed for these and the finite element method for the numerical approximation will be the main objectives of the lecture.
Recommended knowledge
1) Basic lectures in analysis and linear algebra
2)Linear functional analysis (We will also discuss for functional analysis aspects during the lecture)
3) Basic knowledge in a programming language (e.g. Python, Matlab, ...)
Course evaluation
The course grade will be computed by the formula grade = max{F,0.8F+0.2P}, where F = Grade of the final exam and P = the grade of a small numerical project that I will give at the middle of the semester and will expected to be submited at the end of the semester.
