The international rule of law is a contested concept, which, nevertheless, has made its way into the agenda of main international organizations, and shaped legal-political discourses of diverse nations in their international relations. The course will analyze the concepts and the debates about this ideal, both scholarly as well as within multilateral fora. The viability of the international rule of law as an operating notion in international law will also be discussed, as well as current trends related to its transnational promotion. |
