In this course we will start out by looking at conceptualizations of land, nature, and wilderness that have shaped Canadian literature and literary criticism. We will then focus on specifically Canadian versions of ecocriticism and ecocritical literature by looking at a narrative text, Helen Humphreys’ The River, at a play, Chantal Bilodeau’s Sila, and at an array of nature and ecocritical poetry.
Texts to be bought: Helen Humphreys The River and Chantal Bilodeau Sila. All other texts will be provided in the moodle classroom. |
