Populism and International Politics
The seminar aims at studying the impact of rising populism on foreign policy and international politics. It attempts to answer the following questions: What are the main discourses, strategies, and narratives of populist actors in different countries? What is the impact of rising right- and left-wing populism on international politics? To what extent and how do populist actors in different countries shape the foreign policy agenda of their governments? The course will provide students with a theoretically guided and empirically supported understanding of different types of populism (left-wing, right-wing, libertarian). The course is comparative in nature and offers case studies from Germany, UK, USA, France, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Russia, Venezuela and other countries.
