International conferences such as the World Model United Nations that simulate the United Nations offer a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in multilateral diplomacy. The World Model United Nations (WorldMUN) is held annually in a different location around the world with more than 2,000 students from over 115 countries. Participating in the WorldMUN delivers insight into the work of a diplomat and is essential for students who plan a career in international organizations. WorldMUN will host its next conference probably in Tokyo in March 2022.

This seminar is open to dedicated and motivated FSU students who will join the 2022 WorldMUN delegation. In three compact courses, students will familiarize themselves with - the work of the United Nations (including the simulated conference committees),- the policies and perspectives of the assigned country,- the issues to be debated at the conference,- rhetorical skills,- and the rules of procedure of the conference.

Compact courses:

- 12./13.11 2021

- 10./11.12 2021

- 07./08.01.2022

In addition to the seminar, there are two excursions to acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge in sample simulations:

  •  weekend excursion- January 2022: Participation in the Heidelberg National MUN Heidelberg University, Link: http://www.worldmun-hd.de, expected number of participants: 100-150
  •  day excursion- February 2022: Visit to the embassy of the assigned country and to the Foreign Office and the embassy of the host country (Japan) .

Logistics such as public relations, fundraising, and travel arrangements will be discussed in addition to the seminar. The seminar will be held in English and can be attended without participating at the WorldMUN. Funding will be provided through external funds; an individual co-payment is required for participation.  In an orientation session (October 20, via Zoom), students will receive detailed information about logistics.

Application deadline: If you would like to be part of the delegation, please apply until October 24, 2021 with Curriculum Vitae & Letter of Motivation to franziska.sandt@uni-jena.de.

Bemerkung

!!! The automatic allocation of seats via Friedolin does not guarantee a place within the seminar or the delegation itself. In particular, a seat in the delegation can only be guaranteed after the application process has been completed. The allocation of seminar seats is then prioritized for the delegation members, all other seats are allocated afterwards. !!!

Info: Registration for the WorldMUN Seminar is done manually after the application process (application deadline: 24.10) is completed.

Leistungsnachweis
