Vektoroptimierung

Vector optimization
Vector optimization comprises the minimization (or maximization) of a vector-valued objective function. To this end the objective space is equipped with a partial ordering. Since minimization of a vector-valued function can be seen as simultaneous minimization of multiple scalar functions, vector optimization is also called multiple objective optimization, where the latter term is preferred in the application-oriented sector.
There are applications in various areas. In many cases conflicting objectives are considered. For example, an optimal portfolio of stocks or securities is expected to have a maximal expected return and a minimal risk. An optimal electromotor is expected to have a maximal efficiency at different moments of force. In the framework of a radio therapy treatment, the tumor should get a maximal dose of radiation while normal tissue should get a minimal dose.
In this course we use a modern approach to vector optimization. The vector optimization problem is considered as a set optimization problem, which is a more general class, in order to have meaningful concepts of infimum and supremum. In this way the theory can be formulated along the lines of the scalar optimization theory.
The course also deals with certain subclasses like linear or convex vector optimization problems. Solution methods are studied for these classes. |
