Englisch C1 - Grammar - Einzelansicht

An advanced English grammar course designed for advanced users of English and focusing on grammar topics of the C1.1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

There is no course book; handouts will be supplied.

A small charge will be made for copying.

Your language level is appropriate to the course (see below: Target group/Zielgruppe).

Successful completion will give you 3 ECTS points. Check with your exam office (ASPA) to find out if these credit points can be counted as part of the "Allgemeine Schlüsselqualifikation" module.

Assessment is based on:

1. fulfilling the attendance requirements (present for 80% of classes)
2. passing the end of semester exam.

Your final grade will be based on several factors: 

• Attendance and participation in class – 40 %

• Homework – 30 %

• Final Exam (written) – 30 %  

Advanced grammar is designed to strengthen students’ usage of English grammar for academic purposes, such as completing written assignments and public speaking.

Upon successful completion of this course and the C1.1 grammar course, students will be able to understand and apply the following grammar structures in spoken and written discourse:  

• nouns, possessives and pronouns

• articles and quantifiers • prepositional phrases, prepositions of place, movement, time and meaning

• adjectives and adverbs – position, form and use

• tenses, including present, past, perfect, past perfect in both simple and continuous forms

• future forms

• modal verbs, including verbs of speculation, expectation, obligation, necessity, prohibition, criticism, certainty, habits and willingness

• conditionals

• negatives and question forms

Students will also develop an awareness of their own writing errors and how to correct and edit them.

Particpants with a good grade at English in their Abitur/school leaving exam would be well-placed in this course.
