An overview over the basic issues of a division of innovative labor, the main types of actors involved in innovation processes and modes of knowledge transfer between actors; national, regional, and sectoral systems of innovation is given. A further focus is on the role of the institutional framework and the policy for innovation systems.

Students are able to evaluate the different forms of labor division in innovation processes and to assess the consequences that result from the high importance of a division of innovative labor for analysis and for policy. They are able to understand the main concepts of an innovation system.
