The course aims at introducing, discovering, but also re-interpreting and re-evaluating the artefacts produced not only in the post-Yugoslav societies, but also those originating in the period of Yugoslavia. The distinctive artistic and media genres and phenomena will be explored and analysed with the intention of detecting and de-constructing dominant and alternative narratives and ideological matrices, but also formal aspects of the works. Also, this kind of an interpretation might offer answers to the questions of tastes, habits and beliefs of the people (in the specific cultural-historical-economical context). The distinction and opposition between high and popular culture could function as a framework to discuss culturally, politically and socially relevant realities, such as turbo-folk music and culture, ‘ethno’ culture, alternative or sub-cultures etc. The choice of works focuses – but is not limited to - film, TV, music and literature. |
