Green Comouting (2 SWS)
The global ICT sector is responsible for energy consumption and carbon emissions well in excess of that of the global aviation industry. At the other end of the spectrum user-facing devices are increasingly mobile and thus battery-powered. Consequently, the energy consumption of software running on mobile hardware is in a direct relation to the utility of applications for the end user. Hence reducing the energy and/or carbon footprint of software (when run on hardware) has become a relevant field of research in recent years. The general aim of this research is "sustainable" or "responsible" or "green" software that meets its specifications (e.g. including response times) with (close to) minimal energy consumption and carbon footprint.
In this seminar we will dive into a range of original research publications on the topic area of "sustainable" or "responsible" or "green" software.
