This seminar will consist in a close reading and discussion of Nel Noddings' contemporary classic book on the ethics of care in education. Noddings examines a caring relationship that can be called ethical and discusses the extent to which we may truly care for plants, animals, or ideas. Moreover, she proposes a realignment of education to encourage and reward not just rationality and trained intelligence, but also enhanced sensitivity in moral matters. The seminar is open for students of education and other disciplines who are interested in reading and discussing a full book in English.
