In Applied Laser Technology - Biophysical Applications we present the use of lasers as contactless probes for investigating biological systems, especially cells. We will give a basic introduction into cells and then present laser-based methods to investigate them, starting with optical microscopy and related techniques using fluorescence and Raman readouts, super-resolution microscopy of all kinds, X-Ray microscopy, THz microscopy, force measurement tools (AFM, tweezers), DNA sequencing, virus detection etc.. Credit points will be given following one seminar task (seminar talk or written work on selected topic), which will be discussed in the excercises, as well as written/oral examines. These are suited for graduate physicists and physicochemists (after bachelor).
